A Private, Trusted Lice Removal Service for Connecticut Families
A note from the school nurse can change your whole day. One itchy scalp can turn into checking every child at the kitchen table, searching online for answers, and wondering if the whole family needs help.
DerLICE® helps Connecticut families handle head lice calmly and privately at home. We provide careful screening, all-natural treatment, precise nit removal, and simple prevention advice so you know what is happening and what to do next.
You did not do anything wrong. Head lice are common in school-age children. They are not caused by dirty hair or an unclean home. Lice spread through close head-to-head contact, which can happen at school, daycare, camp, sleepovers, sports, and playdates.

Why nit removal matters: the lice life cycle
A single missed egg restarts the whole process. Here's why thorough nit removal, not just killing live lice, is what actually breaks the cycle.

The three stages:
-
Egg (nit): Hatches in 6 to 9 days. Glued firmly to the hair shaft close to the scalp, which is why eggs are so often missed by a quick comb-through.
-
Nymph: Matures over 9 to 12 days, passing through three molts before becoming an adult. Already capable of biting and feeding on the scalp during this stage.
-
Adult louse: Lives 3 to 4 weeks on a host. A single female can lay 6 to 8 eggs a day, which is how one missed nit turns into a full household case within about two weeks.
A single missed egg restarts the whole process. Here's why thorough nit removal, not just killing live lice, is what actually breaks the cycle.
Is It Nit or Dandruff?
Dandruff usually moves when you brush or flick it. Nits stay attached to the hair shaft and are much harder to remove.
Check behind the ears, near the crown, and at the back of the neck. Nits often appear white, tan, or yellow-brown and sit close to the scalp.
If you are not sure what you are seeing, a professional screening can provide a clear answer.
